I’m sure you’ve heard the expression stripping something down to its core.
And if you haven’t — I wonder why I assumed that’s something most people would’ve heard of.
Dressing Up
Anyway, back to the topic at hand.
Today, I did something for me — the real me.
Something I’ve never done before.
I woke up, took a shower, dried my still-growing hair, did my skincare routine (that part I have done before, obviously)…
But then — I got dressed.
And not just in any clothes, but in some of my feminine clothes — the ones I keep hidden out of sight in my house.
Now, I’ve obviously worn them before.
But what I haven’t done is put them on in the morning, and lived my entire day in them — only taking them off at night.
Not to mention: I also put on makeup, feminine deodorant, and a lovely floral perfume.
Stripping Down
So that’s the dressing up part explained.
Now for the next part: the stripping down.
But this time, I don’t mean taking off clothes or wiping away makeup.
No — I mean stripping down the walls around me.
Getting more and more comfortable in my own skin.
In my own home.
In my own identity.
Every time I dress up — or really, just get dressed as myself —
Every time I see that my hair has grown again,
Buy something that feels affirming (like that hair dryer the other day!).
I feel like I’ve stripped away another tiny layer.
And taken a step closer to living my life as me —
All day, every day.
